About The Team
The Coweta High School Academic Quiz Bowl Team started the 2015-16 season by hosting the New Frontier Conference Round Robin. The varsity squad scored victories over Miami and Glenpool and dropped a close contest to Caney Valley when the game ended in a tie and the visitors won on a sudden death tossup question. Caney Valley was runner-up in last year's 3A State Tournament.
Week one competition started with the varsity scoring a victory over the host, Glenpool, and dropping close matches to Wagoner and last year's 4A state champion team, Cascia Hall.
The varsity squad's record currently stands at 3-3. Leading scorer for week one was senior captain, Maddie Alburtus, who answered 9 tossup questions correctly, followed by senior Solomon Cornell with 8, and senior Ally Johnston with 6 correct answers. Junior, Bryce Usrey, added on 3 correct responses. Week Two scoring leader was Ally Johnston with 12, Solomon Cornell with 8, and Maddie Alburtus with 6 for a very balanced scoring attack. Seniors Kameron Richards and Andrew Pearson also see varsity action.
The team also travels to Caney Valley for matches against Victory Christian, Miami, and Cascia Hall.
After going winless in week one, the junior varsity bounced back last night by winning two out of three with victories over Miami and Glenpool. Megan Cole, Andrew Honeycutt, Taylor Humphrey, and Ashley Stocking compete for the junior varsity squad.
Senior Taron Mills serves as manager, scorekeeper and timekeeper.
